  1. We are all aware of the old saying that water and electricity do not mix. So the very first thing that you need to do to avoid possible electrocution, is that if the floors are wet not to turn on any electrical switches or touch or plug in any electrical appliances. Sad to say countless people are killed by combining water and electricity each year. If the electrical panel is in a dry area then go ahead and shut off the circuit breakers until you can dry everything out.
  2. Hopefully you have flood insurance, so be sure to take extensive pictures to document the damage.
  3. Remember, flood waters often contain sewage and chemicals. So, everything that got wet must be either thrown away or cleaned and disinfected.
  4. Has your septic system, been affected by flooding waters, be sure to have them serviced immediately because these damaged systems can cause serious health hazards.
  5. Have a professional come out and remove the wet drywall, and insulation.
  6. Have a licensed electrical contractor  replace all electrical outlets and switches that have been damaged by the and water.
